The war in the Middle East

As the mother of a 22 year old Marine stationed in Baghdad, I want nothing more than there to be peace in the Middle East. I trusted our president when he sent our young men and women to fight the war on terrorism, since then I have come to realize that his only agenda is to force a nation to become a Democracy.

Stacy,

I feel that we were led to war by false reasons. I'm not sure if our government really believed what they where telling us or not, but there appear to have been no WMDs.

That being said, Christians and Jews and Shiite and Sunni Muslims are all free to worship now. Only Sunnis had that right before. Women are getting an education. Thousands (more like 100s of thousands) have indoor plumbing, electricity and phones that never had them before.

When we look at the people attacking our troops, they are not Iraqis, they are Saudis and Jordanians and others. We are welcomed by the Iraqis, we are bringing peace and health and new life to Iraq. On the whole, we are doing good things.

As to those who are fighting us...well, I'm not sure that they wouldn't come over here and fight us if we weren't over there. They do not have a sense of us being peaceful, fair-minded and equitable people who want everyone to have a say. In fact, they do not seem to want everyone to have a say.

There is some virtue to limiting the power to rule to a well trained few. There is some virtue to expanding power to the people. Unfortunately, they cannot co-exist.

Just some thoughts of mine.
